One time I was in Belgrade, waiting for the rain to pass meanwhile checking some art books, when I discover Era Milivojević’s work during Belgrade’s bombing in 1999. This morning I read some notes on my diary of that time and I’m still amused for the power of simplicity on Machine vs. Human project, where he draws with adhesive tape the chess game between Gary Kasparov and one IBM.
When everybody in the white city was getting crazy between fears and proud, Milivojević (Uzice, 1944) resumes the conflict of the new era in the center of the conflict: the faculty of Philosophy. I can’t help to see a bitter humor in all this, and I love it.
There’s not too much information or picture about the artist in the net, but this link is more than concise about that fabulous performance.

Jan 3rd: Holidays in France, the real rural one. TV was a way to get closer to the culture of this country and besides the usual rubbish you can find in any TV, the French one is based on show-business and the only true religion is the Météo.

I discoverd Jean-Pierre Blanchard in one emission at France 2. Magic, show and easy formula to amuse the public. I kinda enjoy the performance.

I’ve been working in Aline Girard’s website lately. Some feedback will be the best present for this new year is just starting. Happy 2010!

Writing.
I bought this image to an old man in Cluj-Napoca center. The fact the handwriting was in the front, living next to a colored girl was enough to make me want to take it with me. Today I will use it to send you the best regards for X-mas and New year’s eve. Big kiss from Flers (France)

Even we’re the same age, one of my greatest masters -not only in photography, but in life- is the photographer Emrah Karakurum (1982).
Same hitting Istanbul streets, trying to cross Hungarian border without visa, cooking the best yogurt soup ever or just talking about American movies, all his stories will start in completely calm for progressively acquire a huge epic tone.
“Everything is about humanity”. He would say while drinks his favourite Romanian drink.

And indeed it is. Devastated landscapes, bizarre characters and awkward travelling situations, in his work he will always bring back the complicity, the compassion that is so indispensable for a sincere Art.
In Emrah’s photographs there is not a premeditated perfection (sharpness is such a bourgeois concept), just inconsistent pieces of a person’s life who knows how to re-invent everything before he finishes the cheap cognac.

Pierre Soulages (1919) is a French artist wich line resumes all experiences of peinture rupestre, Zen Calligraphy and street graffiti. I’m really looking forward to cross one of his paintings in my way.
Here a revealing interview about his creative process. I love his frase: « Plus les moyens sont limités, plus l’expression est forte. »
